I’ve had a few of Tower’s Kaos 60 size pattern planes. They’re quite gentle and fun to fly, but the Tower version consistently comes in around 7.5lb., making it on the heavy side.
I built the Old School Model Works Bat a while back and was quite impressed with their kit. All aspects of it, wood quality, cut quality, plans, instructions and hardware were all really good. This made it easy to decide to get their Kaos, so I sold my Tower Kaos ARF and bought this kit and dived in.
My power system is an Eflite Power 60b (470KV), a Castle Edge Lite 100 ESC and an APC 14-10 prop all powered by a 6s 5000mAh battery.
I didn’t make any cuts at all regarding weight. I did use all MKS HV69 servos that are very light. I also added a lightweight MKS wing servo to steer the nose wheel. Their design uses layers of lite ply in a few places where we used to use ply or even hardwood block. I think this alone allowed me to shed several ounces.
All up weight is 6lb 11oz plus the canopy. So if the canopy is 2oz we are still south of 7 lb. I’m happy with that.
